National Executive Director (NFP)
Karen was born in Montreal, raised in Toronto, and now works a physician in a community hospital in the GTA. Her fun, outgoing personality has been a welcome part of CSTO for years. Beyond her bubbly personality is a serious dedication towards all of the programs within this amazing organization. She was the Admin Director for CSTO for several years, and is now proud to be National Director of Operations for Culture Shock Canada.
Prior to Culture Shock, Karen's primary dance 'training' was her bedroom mirror. In 1998, while at a hip hop class in downtown Toronto, she met a CSTO troupe member who was handing out flyers for auditions. She was inspired by Culture Shock's mission statement and promptly auditioned. To this day, she still feels the 'afta shock' excitement of joining CSTO. Dance therapy provides an exhilarating freedom, which she shares with all the people around her.
Being a part of CSTO has meant more than just being a dancer. Karen has learned about the importance of building lasting relationships that go beyond the walls of the dance studio. Travelling to different cities for showcases means regular reunions with our Culture Shock families. Playing an active role within the Youth Outreach program is a growing passion. Contributing to the organization on a national level is extremely rewarding. Karen is inspired by all the wonderful people in the Culture Shock family!
